Teaching Philosophy
All of my students are given a well rounded program of instruction with training in repertoire, music theory, ear training and technique.
Students will have the chance learn a variety of musical styles from classical through to contemporary. Lesson formats are flexible and tailored to the needs and interests of the student.
Lesson Format
The main goal for myself as a teacher is to instill a love and appreciation of music. Lessons and learning should be fun and enjoyable. I will speak with you to understand what your goals are as a parent and/or student, to ensure that we all work together to structure the lessons appropriately.
Lessons are typically 30 minutes for beginner students. From grade 4 and up I recommend lessons 45 minutes and will increase to an hour for higher grades.
Payment
Lessons are scheduled during the school term which usually runs for 10 or 11 weeks.
Payments can be made per school term (discounts apply) or can be paid per lesson.
Attendance
Please make sure that you or your child is able to start the lesson on time and has their music, homework book and any other relevant materials available.
A minimum of 24 hours notice is required to cancel a lesson. I will try where possible to reschedule at another time.
Responsibilities
Playing the piano is an enjoyable and rewarding skill that can last a lifetime, but it takes commitment from the student, parent and teacher to accomplish this. This commitment is necessary to the success of the student, and will lead to real progress and a lifetime love of music.

Teacher’s Responsibilities
- Provide high quality piano lessons and a positive learning environment
- Help develop a student’s appreciation, enthusiasm and love of different musical styles
- Encourage and motivate students to practice
Student’s Responsibilities
- Keep a positive attitude and ask questions when you don’t understand
- Be ready for lessons on time, with all materials ready
- Practice at home
- Complete any written homework that is given
- Relax and have fun!
Parent’s Responsibilities
- Ensure your child is available to attend lessons on a weekly basis
- Encourage your child to practice at home and provide a positive environment. Offer praise and support. Having a set time each day for practice works very well. It is better to practice for shorter periods each day, rather than one long practice session once a week.
- Talk to me about any questions or concerns you or child may have. Communication is the key to a good relationship!
